Description

Akepox 5010 – Epoxy Adhesive for Stone Repair and Bonding

Akepox 5010 is a two-component epoxy adhesive specifically formulated for demanding bonding, filling, and repair work on natural stone and tile surfaces. Unlike standard cement-based adhesives, it delivers a significantly higher bond strength, making it suitable for applications where heavy loads, thick materials, or structural reliability are critical.

This epoxy system is commonly used when conventional adhesives are not sufficient to support the weight or performance requirements of the installation. It provides a strong, durable bond that ensures long-term stability for dense materials such as granite, marble, and engineered stone slabs.

Beyond bonding, Akepox 5010 is also highly effective for repairing surface defects in stone. It can be used to fill cracks, voids, and edge damage prior to final finishing, helping restore both structural integrity and visual appearance. Once cured, it creates a solid and stable repair that blends into subsequent polishing or finishing processes.

It is particularly suitable for natural stone installations on walls and floors, where both aesthetics and strength are important. It is also widely used for heavy tile and slab fixing in situations where standard adhesives are not rated for the load, such as large-format installations or vertical applications.

Overall, Akepox 5010 provides a reliable, high-performance solution for stone fabrication, repair, and installation work where strength and durability cannot be compromised.

Why Akepox 5010 Is Specified Across the GCC

Stone fabrication and installation work across the Gulf region presents conditions that most standard adhesives are not built for. Temperatures in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman regularly push above 40 degrees Celsius on site, and substrate surfaces can reach significantly higher temperatures when exposed to direct sun. Higher temperatures accelerate curing and reduce the product’s working time. At 20°C, the working time is approximately 20 to 30 minutes, while the technical data sheet lists approximately 10 to 15 minutes at 30°C. Installers should plan applications around the actual site temperature and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Akepox 5010 is a solvent-free, gel-like, two-component epoxy repair mortar based on an epoxy resin with a cycloaliphatic polyamine hardener. The gel-like consistency provides high creep resistance, helping the adhesive remain in position during application on suitable vertical surfaces. This is important on facade installations, miter joints, and wall-mounted stone panels where the adhesive must grip immediately and maintain contact while curing completes.

The product uses a 2:1 mixing ratio by volume or weight. When mixed correctly using the cartridge and nozzle system, it produces a homogeneous, even bond layer with very low shrinkage during hardening. Low shrinkage means low internal stress at the bond line, which reduces the risk of joint failure over time, particularly where stone pieces are large or the substrate is subject to minor thermal movement.

Performance in Hot Climates

AKEPOX 5010 has a working time of approximately 20 to 30 minutes at 20°C, 10 to 15 minutes at 30°C, and 5 to 10 minutes at 40°C. Higher temperatures accelerate curing, so fabricators and installation teams working in GCC summer conditions should plan applications around the actual site and surface temperature and work in manageable sections.

At 20°C, bonded parts can be moved after approximately 6 to 8 hours and further processed after approximately 12 to 16 hours. Maximum stability is reached after approximately 7 days. The technical data sheet lists temperature stability of approximately 60 to 70°C for bonded parts exposed to weight and approximately 100 to 110°C for bonded parts not exposed to weight. These values apply to the specified bonding conditions and should not be treated as general service-temperature ratings.

Non-Yellowing Formula for Light-Colored Stone

AKEPOX 5010 has a very low tendency to yellow after curing, making it suitable for light-colored natural and artificial stone where appearance is important. The product also supports color matching with compatible AKEPOX coloring pastes or concentrates, which can be added at up to 5% by weight.

Certifications and Safety

AKEPOX 5010 is food-safe after curing, with certification from an external German testing institute, and carries Emission Class A+, confirmed by an external testing institute. For kitchen countertops, food preparation areas, and other applications with specific material requirements, contractors should follow the manufacturer’s application and curing instructions and verify the documentation required by the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What surfaces can AKEPOX 5010 bond?
AKEPOX 5010 is suitable for bonding natural and artificial stone, including marble, granite, limestone, quartz, and other suitable stone materials, as well as Techno Ceramics, concrete ashlar, and hard stone. Always check the current technical documentation for the specific substrate before application.
How does heat in the UAE affect the working time of Akepox 5010?
At 20°C, AKEPOX 5010 has a working time of approximately 20 to 30 minutes. At 30°C, the working time reduces to approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and at 40°C it reduces to approximately 5 to 10 minutes. GCC installers should account for actual site and surface temperatures when planning mixing and application and should work in manageable sections to avoid using material after its working time.
Can Akepox 5010 be used as an epoxy repair mortar for cracks in stone?
Yes. AKEPOX 5010 can be used for filling and restoration work involving natural and artificial stone, including suitable cracks, voids, and damaged areas before final polishing or finishing. Its gel consistency allows it to stay in place within a crack during curing, and its low-shrinkage formula minimizes stress at the repair line once hardened.
Is Akepox 5010 suitable for outdoor facade applications in Bahrain, Qatar, or Saudi Arabia?
AKEPOX 5010 is suitable for indoor and outdoor bonding applications and offers weather-resistant bonding, good dimensional stability, and alkali stability. It is suitable for bonding materials such as concrete ashlar and hard stone. For facade or cladding applications, the product should be specified and installed according to the project requirements and current manufacturer documentation.
Does Akepox 5010 hold certification for use in food preparation areas or green building projects?
Yes. AKEPOX 5010 is certified as food-safe after curing by an external German testing institute and carries Emission Class A+, confirmed by an external testing institute. For kitchen countertops, food preparation areas, and other applications with specific material requirements, contractors should follow the manufacturer’s application and curing instructions and verify the documentation required by the project.
